How Do You know It Is A PSE?

I am inclined to respond to the question, “How do you know it is a PSE?”, as follows: If you think it is a PSE, then it is one. I resist defining a personal spiritual experience. Defining something is a fraudulent procedure. It suggests one knows what something is and how it works. Definitions are limiting. Whenever we define, we pretend to know more than we do. I am suspicious of anyone who suggests they know how Spirit works.
Recognizing a PSE is the first step. Some PSEs leave no doubt that they are a meaningful, non-ordinary experience that impacts one’s life. Many of my readers and students have shared with me that until they had read the stories of others, they did not think they’d had a PSE. One of the goals of my website is to provide many PSE stories that demonstrate the large variation in the way PSEs arrive in an individual’s life. When I hear a story that has a similar presentation as one of my experiences, I feel comforted. Not so alone.
I hope you will read and share your story.
